Default Upgrading to Vista Home Premium from XP bootleg copy

I will be installing an authorized, legitimate copy of
Windows Vista Home Premium on a family members PC.

This will be a retail, full installation, version.

It currently has XP SP2 bootleg copy.
The Vista system checker says the hardware is OK.
It advised that new drivers are needed for 2 devices and I
have d/l them to a USB thumbdrive.

Does anyone know of any issues I may encounter upgrading
to Vista over the bootleg copy? Things I should do first?
    Thanks

Do a clean install on a freshly formated hard drive and reload all the third party programs for the best chances of a issue free upgrade.

And most importantly make sure that all important stuff is backed up,
including emails, favourites, docs and anything else that cant be
    redownloaded or used from disk.
