Default Trouble Importing .AVI file to Windows Movie Maker

When I import an .avi file into Movie Maker it plays only the audio...not the video. I know that the file is ok because it plays both audio and video in Windows Media Player and Media Center.

The reason I am trying to import it is so that I can add captions to the video but I am not sure that this is the best way to go about it.

I would greatly appreciate any advice that you can give.

AVI files can be lots of things. If you have a Codec pack on your system, try to import the file with the "all" setting into WMM

If you do not have a Codec pack, get this one ( Download K-Lite Codec Pack 4.42 (Full) - FileHippo.com ). But make sure you do not have 2 Codec packs at the same time. That could spell trouble.
