Default How to move files to another drive?

after a discussion on defraggler and how it runs so slowly scanning all my image files, someone suggested i move some files onto another drive and see if that takes care of the problem..where do i temporarily move said files and move them back? -pertaining to local disk C and D

    You have a few options.

    1. Use an external hard drive

    2. Create a partition on your hard drive

    3. Burn them to a DVD

To know how to create partition you need to read this beautiful guide:

trying to create a partition looks like a daunting task for someone like who doesnt know a whole lot of the inner workings of comp. is true, im not tech savvy as TW, HAK or any others ive run into here. would have to study and do research on this before executing it

I use Partition Magic. It is real easy to use and the first time I used it to create a partition it was my first time doing it also. Give it even though it does cost to use it. I wasn't disappointed in buying this software, or if you have an external drive, just copy the entire file or folder to the external drive. I use my external drive as a back up drive for all my information. It is a good practice to get into just in case your comp crashes.

Damn right. This has a lot of pitfalls. You have to REALLY know what you are doing, else you destroy those directory records the (dumb) Vista puts at the end of the disk. Here is a good article of what's involved ( Using GParted to Resize Your Windows Vista Partition :: the How-To Geek ).

You were looking at external drives weren't you? They really are an essential tool for computer maintenance. Get the biggest one you can afford.
