    Default Group Policy Editor

Hi all, I need a little help with the Group Policy Editor. I want to disable the autoplay feature on my PC to make sure I am safe against the Conficker worm. I have read this tutorial; How To disable Autoplay of USB Drives & Audio CDs in Windows but when I type in gpedit.msc into the start search box there are no matches found, is this a typo or am I missing something.

works on my machine. Try using the run box instead of the search box.

If the run command is not on your start menu, right click on the task bar, click properties, start menu, customize, and check the box for "Run Command", OK, Apply, OK.

Then from the start menu click Run and type your command in the box.

I typed it into the Run Command Box and I receive the same error massage; "Windows cannot find 'gpedit.msc'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. Do you know where its located so I can open it or is it only available in that way.

    It is in C:/Windows/System32

You may need to repair your Vista Installation. Do you have the installation disk?

    Hi johnny
I copied and pasted what you put and got there without any problem and while I do't want to disagree with roraniel, can I suggest that you do a check disk first? or that you try to do it safe-mode before doing a repair install and only after doing that do the repair install

I couldn't find it in the system32 folder but the 'dll' file was there. I am going to scan the hard drives now and report back. JR.

Thanks roraniel that will be why I haven't got it on my pc and thanks also to HappyAndyK and Seti for your input. I have found what I need to do now. By going through 'Control panel' and selecting everything to 'Do Nothing'. Feel a little bit more secure now, Happy Days lol.

I think HappyAndyK added some additional methods in his article linked right above your last post. More than one way to get the job done!!
