The opinions would vary widely actually.
    I usually prefer 2-3 partitions.
    1. Vista 100 GB
    2. BackUps where I put all my data files in different folders. Size depending on your needs.
    3. An extra partition should you wish to actually install any other OS.

Downloads is way too big. I have over 1000 files in downloads and it is less than 9GBs. However, for videos you can never have enough space. A 5 minute video can easily take 20 to 40 MBs - a lot more in HD. Note also that the maximum number of primary disk partitions in Vista is 4,

Right, if you download movies into Downloads, you'll need more space. I download my movies into Videos (one reason for my comment). For Games I don't know. I don't touch them - a waste of time as far as I am concerned.

    got a prob guys..

got ma hard disk (500gb)yesterday today installed bt i am nt able 2 resize as i want it

this is wat i want :

    Vista : 90gb
    win 7 on virtual pc : 30gb
    downloads: 60gb
    movies :80
    mp3 :50
    games: 80
    ebooks/softwares setups : 50
    Personal pics :30

Now i got to disk management and in the unallocated space total space is 465 odd gb.now i right click on unallocated space and give shrink volume and give 90gb as size it creates a volume then i right click and create a new volume and a partition of 89gb is got. This comes as primary partition.now next unallocated space i go repeated it thrice i.e win 7,donwloads,movies(30,60,80) i get partitions but al are primary active partitions. and as vista give only max 4 active primary partitions.. Prob is i want newly created vista partition as primary(89gb one) and rest as extended.i did this same from my vista ultimate cd i get same thing..y am i not able 2 do rest of drives as extended logical ones...

PS: i am doin this from my current vista OS in my older drive 160gb one..
