I use PDF exchange viewer and highly recommend it. I have had no problems using it to open PDF docs in any format at all. I much prefer it to the adobe pdf, as you can save in as well. There are two versions(Ithink) one free and one paid for. I have only used the free version. I do not know if this helps you at all.

Actually you can save your file as .pdf in MS word 2007 easily.

But the converted files always dicard layouts and other things.

I use Nemo PDF Converter in Vista, it can help convert doc files to PDF easily, and it preserves text, layouts, tables and images.
